What applies here that doesn't elsewhere
Australian specificsMost of what is written about office pods online is American or European and does not translate cleanly. Four things are specific to buying one in Australia.
Electrical. Pods must have Australian outlets and internal wiring to AS/NZS 3000. Units imported directly from overseas marketplaces frequently arrive with US or EU sockets, which cannot legally be used here without rework. Confirm this in writing before ordering from anyone.
Approvals. There is no council approval required for a freestanding pod anywhere in Australia, because it is furniture rather than building work. Your lease may still impose conditions, particularly on floor loading.
Floor loading. Assessed against AS/NZS 1170.1. Assembled weights run from 290 kg to 970 kg. Because the larger pods spread that over a bigger footprint, loading falls as the pod grows: roughly 143 kg/m² for a six-person pod, 171 for a four-person, 228 to 254 for the two-person models, and about 310 kg/m² for the smallest booth, which concentrates its weight over roughly one square metre. Most Australian commercial floors are designed to a 3.0 kPa uniformly distributed load under AS/NZS 1170.1, which is about 306 kg/m² — so the larger models sit comfortably inside it and the smallest is worth confirming with your building manager on older floors.
